about

Way back about 1971 or so I was a kid living on my own for the first time in Terre Haute, Indiana. One night, during a very windy, powerful thunderstorm, I jotted down "Hot rod wind tonight, must be pressed for time." I always like that thought, then later, when the original EIEIO five piece was hitting on all cylinders, steeped in Americana, I wrote this song, which we demoed along with 1/2 Way to Carolina, Don't Take Me Down, and a couple of other songs, live to 2 track at Breezeway Studios in Waukesha, Wisconsin.

lyrics

Hot Rod Wind
©2007 Steve Summers

He was young cocksure and he couldn't be told
Said l hope l die young
l hope l never grow old
Goin' nowhere like ninety in the full moon light
Racin' with the wind on a Saturday night

He's a midnight flier on a hot rod wind

Little Sister Suzy with a pageboy bob
T-t-t-teenage mother with a dead end job
Playin' the adult while she's really just a child
He told 'er climb up on the back l guarantee l'll drive you wild

l'm a midnight flier on a hot rod wind
And there ain't no tellin' all the places l've been

Yeah from the outskirts of the city to the county line
She felt the freedom of the wind she heard the engine whine
Speedin' on to Rebel's Rock they missed a deadly turn
Oh Little Sister Suzy born to crash and burn

With a midnight flier
On a hot rod wind
And you know they're never comin' back again

lf you go down to Rebel's Rock when the full moon shines
On a Saturday night in the summertime
lf there's truth in the tales that the locals tell
You can still hear the last proud rebel yell

Of a midnight flier on a hot rod wind
And you know they're never comin' back again
I'm a midnight flier on a hot rod wind
And there ain't no-no-no tellin' all the places l've been

about

EIEIO Sierra Madre, California

EIEIO, est. 1983, put out "Land of Opportunity" and "That Love Thang" on Frontier Records in the mid '80's. In 1999 after a ten year break, we decided to play again and released "EIEIO" in 2007. Here you'll get unreleased material, and hopefully new material from Rob Harding, Mike Hoffmann, Mike Gorman, Scott Gorsuch and me, Steve Summers, time and distance permitting. Thanks for checking in. ... more
